Le Regard : Behind The Film

A middle-aged actor challenges the limiting age restriction in the fashion industry, as she poses for a film exploring the agelessness of beauty.

The lurking fear of aging in the Western World, particularly for women, is no secret. Of course, this should not come as a shock considering the media’s representation of women with extensive Photoshop, age restrictions on modeling, and endless force-feeding of “rejuvenating” product advertisements. Though there have been some efforts to be more inclusive (ex: America’s Next Top Model’s age limit removal), there still remains immense progress to be made on behalf of the beauty industry. I find it disheartening that something so natural, inevitable, and beautiful should be deemed shameful.

As a result, with “Le Regard,” I wanted to make my small contribution to the efforts made to represent beautiful women of all ages and dispel the myth that beauty belongs to the youth. With the help of a middle-aged actor, Ingunn Omholt, the short fashion film supports the agelessness of beauty. The eye animations in the background represent the judgemental “regard” (French for “gaze”) of society.
