Cleaning up after hosting a party, a hopeless romantic draws a parallel between a match’s failure to light a candle and his own inability to spark his crush’s interest.
If you watch my films, you’ll know I am fond of incorporating metaphors in my stories when possible. Notably, in “Why Won’t You Burn”, the protagonist parallels his inability to attract his crush to his failure to light a candle.

With this film, I wanted to experiment with the concept of "mise en abyme” and interweaving of different genres. Therefore, as the short develops, the scene’s context reinvents itself. The film begins set in reality, then soon morphs into an overdramatized performance (breaking the 4th wall), before finally revealing the theatrical scene rehearsal setting. After the credits, I close the film with a behind the scenes clip in which my voice echoes the idea of a fabricated performance and calls attention to the story in its entirety belonging to the short film genre.
