Through a homeless person recalling the story of his lost love, “The Echoing” touches on the undying marriage between music, emotion, and memory.
From low income and house affordability to health problems and escaping domestic violence, homelessness is hardly ever a choice. According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, there are an estimated 553,742 people in the United States experiencing homelessness on a given night (calculated January 2017).

As a number of social experiments have illustrated, almost as if unrecognizably human, homeless people are often ignored or encountered with fear. “The Echoing” makes use of music’s universal bonding quality and its connection to both emotion and memory as a means of sparking compassion for an individual that often goes unnoticed. Through a character with a relatable story and past, I hope to inspire empathy and encourage individuals to show extra warmth next time they cross paths with a homeless person.
